Twenty years after Monterey, UN funding for the development process is as important as ever
This week, almost 20 years ago, world leaders ratified the UN Montreux Accord. They are committed to “responding to the challenges of financing for development” with a global response and to creating a fully inclusive and equitable global economic system. The agreement included the key recognition that globalization of a reciprocal global economy “requires national development efforts to be supported by a conducive global economic environment.” This was born out of the United Nations Development Program (FFD) process which is now – 20 years under the line – as important as ever.

Civil Society Statement on the IMF’s Future First Gender Strategy

For the first time, the IMF is developing a gender mainstreaming strategy to integrate gender lenses into core lending, oversight and technical assistance operations.
This month, a group of 16 civil society and women’s rights organizations – including Eurordad – along with 30 additional signatories, issued a joint statement in response to a memorandum of understanding on the concept of this strategy. The group has developed a set of key policy questions based on the fund’s traditional financial, monetary and labor market policy advice based on a commitment to seriously assess the gender impact.
